Ninety-five years of geographical scholarship
The Department of Geography at The University of Hong Kong has a legacy of geographical instruction dating to 1915, with its formal establishment in 1931.
From the Tang Chi Ngong Building to the Jockey Club Tower, the Department has grown into a world-class research hub bridging human and environmental systems.
Having nurtured more than 4,600 graduates, this anniversary gathering honours a heritage of scholarly resilience while looking toward the most urgent spatial and ecological challenges of the 21st century.
A three-day gathering of keynote lectures, lightning talks, posters, an open house and gala dinner — followed by a field excursion to The Peak.

POST-SYMPOSIUM EXCURSION
A field reading of Hong Kong from The Peak
A guided hike along the Peak’s contour paths closes the symposium, reading urban form, harbour infrastructure, hillside ecology and regional transformation directly from the landscape.
